Teriyaki salmon and rice bowl: quick, easy, and healthy!
Teriyaki salmon has been one of my go-to easy weeknight meals for years! It goes great with any kind of vegetable- my favorites are edamame, avocado, greens, or cucumber.
Shredded cabbage, seaweed salad, or shredded carrots would go well in this salmon teriyaki bowl too!
That’s the best part of this meal- you can switch it up every time you make it by adding different vegetables, making different rice (add sesame seeds and sesame oil to plain jasmine rice for something different!) or even serving it cold like a salad rather than hot!
Ingredients for teriyaki salmon and rice bowl
Basically, the only thing you have to really “cook” for this recipe is the teriyaki sauce. Other than that, it’s just pan frying or baking the salmon, making rice and putting some vegetables on top!
Ingredients for teriyaki sauce:
- Soy sauce
- Water
- Garlic
- Freshly grated ginger
- Cornstarch
- More water, for mixing with cornstarch
Other ingredients:
- 4 salmon filets
- Jasmine rice
- Vegetable oil
- Salt
- Pepper
- Green onion, for garnish
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
- Vegetables of your choice
How to cook the salmon
For this recipe, I chose to pan sear the salmon and then top it with the teriyaki sauce. But I have made it in the oven before as well. You can even bake the salmon with the teriyaki sauce on top of it so the flavor soaks into the fish and gets extra thick and caramelized.
What vegetables go with this teriyaki salmon and rice bowl?
Great question! Here are some ideas for what vegetables would go great with this bowl:
- Edamame
- Avocado
- Shredded cabbage
- Cucumber
- Microgreens
- Sautéed spinach
- Seaweed salad
- Shredded carrots
- Sautéed bok choy
- Broccoli
- Green beans
Pro tip: save some extra teriyaki sauce to drizzle on top of the vegetables!

Teriyaki Salmon Bowl
Buttery salmon glazed in teriyaki sauce and placed over a fluffy bed of white rice and vegetables- it’s the healthy, delicious, quick and easy recipe we all need in our lives! I promise once you try this delicious meal you’ll want to make it again and again!
- 4 salmon filets
- 4 cups jasmine rice (cooked)
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- salt
- pepper
- sesame seeds
- green onion
Teriyaki Sauce
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tbsp water
- 4 garlic cloves (finely minced)
- 1 inch ginger (grated)
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 tbsp water (to mix with cornstarch)
- For the teriyaki sauce: Place the soy sauce, water, garlic, ginger, and brown sugar in a small pot over medium high heat. Stir until sugar is dissolved, about 3 minutes. Turn up heat to high and bring to a boil. Meanwhile, cook rice according to package directions.
- Mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of cold water until dissolved. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and boil for 1-2 minutes, or until sauce has thickened. Set sauce aside.
- Heat the oil in a large pan over medium high heat. Season the salmon filets with salt and pepper, to taste. Place the salmon in the pan skin side down, and cook for about 5 minutes. Flip the filets and cook skin side up until golden brown, about 5 minutes, or until cooked through. Pour the teriyaki sauce over the salmon.
- Assemble the bowls: add rice to a bowl. Place salmon filet on top of the rice and garnish with sesame seeds and green onion. Add your favorite vegetables such as edamame, red cabbage, microgreens, and cucumber and serve.
